It
is the most common cancer in females affecting one out of every about 7 women.
Fortunately there has been a lot of progress and research in treatment of
breast cancer patients. We have lots of options for treatment including
chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy. As we detect more
mutations specific target therapies are being developed.
Treatments depend on Stage and presence of certain protein markers such as
estrogen and progesterone receptor along with another protein called Her-2/Neu.
Triple Negative breast cancer means none of these markers are present and their
disease can be aggressive.
It is important to have a good rapport with the Oncologist because patients may
undergo several chemotherapy treatments during course of the disease.
Medical Oncologist coordinates the treatments between the Breast surgeon and
the Radiation doctor.
Prognosis and outcomes have definitely improved in the last few years
