High/Low Platelets

Platelets are the cells that help the blood to clot. Low platelets can make you bleed and high platelets can cause blood to clot where it is not supposed to.

Low platelets is usually due to medications infections or immune mechanism.
High platelets is generally due to the body reacting to underlying infection or inflammation or bleeding but can also be due to bone marrow disorders.

A hematologist will evaluate you with special blood tests and possibly a bone marrow examination
